Soul Ties

Some one recently posed a question to me regrading a past relationship. Was it a healthy soul tie or unhealthy soul tie. I begin to research the meaning of soul ties. I was reading in 1Sam 18:1 about the relationship between King David and Johnathan. They had a healthy soul tie as a result if a good friendship.

King David and Jonathan had a good soul tie as a result of a good friendship (1 Samuel 18:1, “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.”)

A healthy soul tie can be when you Knit together with some one for a purpose. A healthy soul tie is the result of a good friendship. In marriage there is a soul tie that is…

Grenada: Day 1

Hi All- From July 18- August 1, I was blessed with the opportunity to travel to Grenada, West Indies to partake in a missions trip teaching at a Christian Science Camp.   The internet connection was not very strong, so over the next couple of days I will be blogging about my experiences.  Enjoy!

My first night here in Grenada, was a bit of a culture shock. It is very different from home. I am miles away from my family and loved ones. However, once the air conditioning in our apartment was fixed, I was able to relax a little. Then, another issue occurred. I couldn’t connect to the WiFi. I wanted desperately to say goodnight to my husband and kids. I then remembered the declaration that was spoken over my traveling partner and I. This trip would bring favor, there would be no issues, no struggles, no problems or concerns. So, I called on Jesus and held him to His Word. I was able to talk to them all and was able to sleep.

Today, I woke up in a different country. That was my first thought. I am feeling much better about my time here. I woke up refreshed and ready to begin. We started the day by getting groceries. Then we headed to the market to see a few of the sites. Of course, I searched out high heels! I found a pair too, but decided against buying them. Hey, it’s only the first day, right. OK, after coming back to the apt to have lunch, we were off to Grace Lutheran to begin our work. We unloaded 170 boxes that had been shipped prior to our arrival. Afterwards, we unpacked, set up classrooms and the resource room. It was a blessing to see artwork that the youth (including my two daughters) from my church had sent, hanging in one of the classrooms. We made connections with the Pastor’s wife and Principal.

Following, we had some free time to explore. We walked down to the beach and watched the sunset. While trying to relax, an older guy came over to talk to us. He told us the ladies call him Mr. Lover Man. After some small talk and more of him trying to “get to know us better” I politely switched the subject to Christ. I didn’t have anything to offer him but the Word of God. He talked off the wall for awhile and then a group of students that accompanied us on the trip came walking by. That was our out! I told him we were going to catch up with our friends, thank God for the ram in the bush!  We told him about Jesus and gave him the word but it was clear he was looking for a debate. No thanks. We followed up the beach with dinner at Subway and frozen yogurt.  When we got back to the apt, we watched a movie for a short while on Netflix before our service stated acting strange. Ended the night by talking to my hubby and children, spent time reading my Word, meditating and praying. Blog, sleep,…… Not as sudden as I would have liked but you get the picture!

The Power of a Transformed Mind

The Second Adam

Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if we don’t feel guilty, we can come to God with bold confidence.  And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. 1 John 3:20-22 NLT

In God’s creation of mankind, he hard-wired our DNA to conform to what we are consistently exposed too. Anything, or anyone that man is exposed to for an extensive amount of time, he will become. All of us by our very nature are products of our environment.  You cannot expect to become like someone or learn from something that you have not been exposed to. Subsequently, the more time mankind spent with God the more he would think and  become like him. Moreover,  It was God’s desire for man to consistently remain in his presence, thus thinking like…

But, I’m just a man…

The Second Adam

Many of us have heard this phrase countless amounts of times, often to justify outlandish or inappropriate behavior. Supportive women will quip to their girlfriends for consolation after we’ve done something idiotic, “Girl, a man is going to be a man.” Your hear men express this phrase as a hall pass for errors, mistakes, and mishaps, drawing from this well of shame until there’s nothing left- “I’m just a man.” As men, we have become a parody, subscribing to the narrative that we are juvenile, inconsiderate, irresponsible, and in need of constant supervision; but when God created man, that is not the image he had in mind.

Saying “I am a man” holds more significance that a concession of our failures. It says that we were created in the image of God and his likeness. We were designed to walk in the delegated authority of God. The Hebrew word for…

Sir, you were created to rule

The Second Adam

“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…” (Gen 1:26)

From the beginning of creation, the male species has been under attack. Since the days of Pharaoh, through the birth of Christ- until this very hour, our adversary has an unquenched obsession with the extermination of the man. In biblical times, Satan used rulers of kingdoms to eliminate chosen men who were destined to be world changers. In modern times, men of all colors, creeds, and nationalities face a similar attack with a “slightly” different method. While there are no Egyptian or Roman soldiers with swords to kick down our doors, today’s men are more institutionalized, more burdened, and under more pressure than ever before. Some have relented to the pressure through absenteeism, while the life experiences of some have caused men to question their manhood, and even their sexuality altogether. Not only is Satan after…

10 Reasons Why I Love Jesus

10. He died for me.

9. He died for me.

8. He died for me.

7. He died for me.

6. He died for me.

5. He died for me.

4. He died for me.

3. He died for me.

2. He died for me.

And the #1 reason why I love Jesus is………

                             He died for me.

I know you came here looking for a list, and technically you got one! ☺ I was sitting here thinking about my life. I am extremely blessed! I overcame a trying childhood. I got pregnant at 16 years old, dropped out of high school and was married at age 17. My husband and I were just two young kids trying to find their way in the world. We both went back to finish school and got our high school diplomas in our respective graduating years. I had numerous jobs in retail and food service. I even tried my hand at sales! I always managed to find favor with my employers and co-workers and worked my way up the ranks quickly. As a matter of fact, after a few months on my very first job (which is where I met my hubby), I was promoted to supervisor at 16 years old! There were times when my husband and I couldn’t pay our rent, but God was there all along. We found favor with our landlord and never faced eviction. I would eventually go on to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Education and land a teaching job. I have a wonderful husband, great children, career, supportive friends and family, health and happiness.

Quite honestly, I could have come up with a detailed, comprehensive list of reasons why I love Jesus so much. However, there was no need to. Why not? Because everything that I am, everything that I have and everything that I will be is because He died for me.

The fact that he sacrificed his life is more than enough reason to make me love him more and more each day. He paid a price for my life that I could never afford. All those years ago, he knew that Shalanda would be birthed and that I had a purpose in this Earth. He knew that I would make countless mistakes. He knew that I would stumble, He knew that I wouldn’t see my destiny but He did. And because He did, he died for me and THAT is why I love Him!

55 Reasons to Never Give Up

Great perspective and encouragement for starters!

My Salt, His Light

I’ve been blogging for 3 months now, and as humble as I would like to believe I am, I have to admit, I still feel the pressure of wanting to be “liked” in the blogosphere. As much as I’d like to say that I don’t need anyone to “like” me, or agree with my point of view, or even care about what I have to say…the truth is, in this busy land of social sharing, we all in one way or another want to be liked. We all want to feel that our writing has purpose, and that we are impacting and inspiring someone…ideally many.

Step Out Of The Shade

It’s 85 and sunny in Seattle for what I am told is maybe the first time ever, but as this picture demonstrates, people will still choose the shade. ~Dr. Jessamyn Blau

I saw these words accompanying this picture on a former high school classmates FB page. This young lady was very bright, even then. She’s just as brilliant now I would gather, as she recently became a doctor! Congrats Jessamyn!! However, she probably didn’t even realize that the simple words she spoke contained such profound meaning. (Then again, she probably did!)

These words reminded me of life here in Wisconsin. We had to deal unmercifully with the Polar Vertex this year. We had a very cold, drawn out winter. We wished, hoped and prayed for warmer days! Unfortunately, when we got them, some people just complained that now it was too hot.

People are the same way with life. Too often we are faced with dreary and rainy days or seasons. These “dark” or uncomfortable times in our life can sometimes feel drawn out and we wonder when they are going to end. We fight against people, situations and circumstances that are draining. We feel tired, hopeless, or defeated. We want a resolution and we want change.

Then, it happens, someone or something great comes along and now our cloudy days are bright. This is what we have been asking for, right? We should be happy, right? Then why aren’t we? Why do we still complain? Why do we still choose the shade?

If you’re looking for the life-altering answer, you won’t find it here. I’m not sure why people still choose to live in negativity and darkness. As I grow older, I’m learning that you have to live for the moment. I’m learning that this variation of Abraham Lincoln’s quote is very true: “You can please all of the people, some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time.” Quite frankly, as he also stated: “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

So today, I charge you to make up your mind to be happy. Choose to live, appreciate those positive people around you. Be grateful for every situation and opportunity to improve your life. Never negate what you have been through but use it as a stepping stone to your destiny. Step out of the shade and choose the SUN!!

Prayer for men

We come to you today, thanking you for who you are. Praising your almighty and everlasting name. We come to you today on the behalf of men. We speak for every father, son, brother, cousin, nephew, stepson, godson- every male. We pray that they would walk in dominion. That they would be the leaders that you have called them to be. We declare that they will walk boldly in authority. We declare and decree that the words they speak will come forth with conviction and clarity. We cancel the contract that Satan thinks he has on their lives and we say that they are Yours! They are Kingdom citizens and reside and abide in the presence and favor of the Most High God!

We declare that they will be an example to those that come after them and in some cases, those that have gone before them. We decree and declare that they will be bold, brave and powerful. They will not falter and bow down to the wiles of the enemy. They will not accept stereotypes as their truth. They will rise up against a society that has ruled them out. They will not be pushovers, punks or peddlers. But – pastors, apostles, prophets and priests! They will be the head of their household! They will love their wives as Christ loves the church. Those that are seeking wives, will seek you first. They will be examples of Your power in this earthly realm. We pray that they will perform miracles and wonders to draw a dying world to you. They will stand firm in their beliefs and values and will not be swayed by this generation. Instead they will be the voice of the generation, snatching Your people out of the pit of despair and confusion!

They will take back the streets, take back the schools and take back the homes! They will stand up and take their rightful place as kings and princes. They will protect the weaker vessels. We speak now that they will be MEN with dominion, power, authority, a sound mind, boldness, a cutting tongue and a loving heart! They will walk in purpose and know their worth to Your kingdom. They will do your will. We declare and decree that they will not die young, they will stop killing one another, they will lay down the street mentality and pick up a God mentality! We declare that they will use their skills and talents to advance their families and the Kingdom of God.

We seal this prayer in your son Jesus name! Amen!!
